5 Sites that Save you MONEY!

CutePDF – Printing costs a lot. Ink and paper aren’t cheap. So, what’s the solution? Stop printing. Well, at least cut back. Anything you print can be saved as a PDF on your hard drive.
Solution2: Change the Font size of the things you print. Changing the font size by 2 pts can save you ink and paper.
Solution3: Use the Draft Print Setting on your printer
Soliton 4: Use an XL cartridge of the same number. 4x as many prints as a regular cartridge and only costs 2x as much.
Solution5: Use the Grayscale Printing Setting on your Printer

Hulu – Your cable bill can definitely dent your wallet. You may be able to get favorite shows online for free. Hulu offers tons of full-length shows and feature films. Hulu Desktop is a slick way to access it without a browser. You can also control it with a remote. Sidereel.com is another great site!

InvisibleHand – This Firefox add-on is your shopping assistant. When you land on a product page, it automatically goes to work. It scours a number of online stores for that product. And it will tell you if you’re looking at the best price. If not, it’ll provide a link to the better deal.

Skype – Are the kids off at college? Do you have family overseas? Don’t cut conversations short because of long-distance phone bills. You can make PC-to-PC calls for free with Skype. You just need a microphone (most laptops have them built-in). Add in a Webcam(Newer Laptops have them built-in) to make video calls.

Who really has $600 for Illustrator?!?

Microsoft Outlook (Save $110)
Spicebird – E-mail is one of the most important programs you can have. Microsoft Outlook handles that and more. Sure, it’s your inbox. But it also stores your contacts, calendar and to-do list.

Microsoft Office (Savings here starts at $150)
OpenOffice.org – Microsoft Office is the standard for productivity software. Almost everyone use it. It does word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and more. But so does OpenOffice.org. And it’s free.

Quicken (Save $40)
GnuCash – Staying on top of your personal finances is important. It’s also a lot of work. Having a good personal finance program is essential. Many people use Quicken. But GnuCash is just as powerful.

Illustrator or CorelDRAW (Save $600 and $430)
Inkscape – Professional quality graphic design takes a skillful artist. And that artist needs really good graphics software. These people often use programs like Illustrator or CorelDRAW. They are great, but expensive.

Photoshop (Save $400)
Photoscape -  is a nice alternative software. It does the same job as photoshop without all the pomp and circumstance. It has a slight learning curve but anyone interested should defiantly give it a try.

iTunes (Free)
Songbird – Wait a second. iTunes is already free. Why would you need a free alternative? Itunes only supports Ipod and iphone. But there are other phones and MP3 players out there. Songbird works with almost any MP3 player. It also handles smartphones like the Palm Pre and Motorola Droid. And it even looks and feels like iTunes.

iPhone Apps: Money Savers

CompareMe ($1.99) – Many people save by shopping at wholesale stores. The idea is to buy in bulk to save money. But bulk packages come in all shapes and sizes. Choosing the right one is tough.
Let’s look at an example. A four-pack of 24-ounce cereal boxes costs $25.39. Next to it is a two-pack of 18-ounce cereal boxes at $10.68. Which is the better buy? Are we shopping or taking the SAT? This app will do the calculating for you.

RedLaser ($1.99) – Barcodes are handy tools for cashiers. They ring up items and their prices with a swipe. But barcodes are pretty much useless to shoppers. That is, unless they are using RedLaser.

Coupon Sherpa (Free) – Coupons are a great way to save. But you have to cut them from the newspaper. Or, maybe you print them off the Web. What if you could carry them on your phone? That would be convenient. Coupon Sherpa gives you access to hundreds of coupons. The barcode is displayed right on your iPhone. The cashier scans it just like a paper coupon. You’ll also find coupons for department stores, car rentals and lots more.

Yard Sale Mapper (Free) – Some of the best deals in the world are found at yard sales. However, finding yard sales is always a pain. Some might be in the back of the newspaper. But you’re often left driving around looking for signs.
This app solves that problem. It pulls yard sale ads from Craigslist. It then locates them on Google Maps. You can see and read about all the sales near you. Find the ones you want and get driving directions.

FREE STUFF!

ebayclassifieds  – This site is eBay’s answer to Craigslist. It’s a flashier classifieds site. But you’ll still find a free section. Select your local Kijiji page. Click on Free Stuff.

Freenapkin – This is another online classifieds site. But it only hosts ads for free items. So, anything you see can be snapped up for nothing.

Craigslist – This is the mother of all free online classifieds sites. You can find almost anything here, including free stuff. Go to your local Craigslist page. Under the “for sale” category, click free.

Freecycle – This site is about free things with a purpose. You’ll find local groups dedicated to keeping usable items out of landfills. It’s better to give away unwanted items than discarding them.

iPhone Apps: Straight to Voicemail

If you ever want to leave a voicemail, but are afraid of disturbing someone? You can now go “Straight to Voicemail”. This handy little app is designed to send you straight to the person’s voicemail. The phone wont ring and disturb them in class, at work, or if you just dont have time to talk but need to get some information to them ASAP.
(This app is ad-supported. Before leaving your message, you’ll sit through a short commercial.) It cost $2, but its worth it!
